Among other possible topics, think about ideas related to collaboration vs. appropriation.

From A Dicionary of Modern and Contemporary Art, "Appropriation in art is the use of pre-existing objects or images with little or no transformation applied to them ... In the visual arts, to appropriate means to properly adopt, borrow, recycle or sample aspects of (of the entire form) of human-made visual culture."

  1. Thru-you was more of a collaboration in my opinion, because the different videos were mixed themselves. Inbflat was kind of appropriation, because no change was applied to the videos themselves, the creator just chose different videos that went well together and linked them on one page. I liked the end result of Thru-you better because it was more of a coherent piece.

  2. The video on inbflat was closer to the definition of appropriation because the artist didn't apply a change to the videos he used. I thought it was cool but I personally like the Thru-you video mix better because it was more musically inclined and they all went very well together. It was definitely a collaboration piece that was not only a work of art but it was entertaining to it's audience.

  3. Both Inbflat and Thru-You work with the idea of taking pre-existing music clips and using them to create something different. Inbflat, although labeled a collaboration and is one technically, is closer to the definition of appropriation. Inbflat didnt do much when it came to altering the used clips, the point was just to play them (or some of them) at the same time. Although the outcome is different if you do what the site intended, in theory Inbflat is just a list of unaltered videos that work well together. Thru-You is more of a collaboration considering it does more when it comes to altering the videos that were used. Thru-You does more remixing than recycling, unlike Inbflat which is the opposite. Both sites are still interesting and well made regardless, and both do a good job of creating a new musical composition.

  4. I think inbflat was much closer to appropriation, as it just seemed to be a series of YouTube clips. Thru-You, on the other hand, seemed as though the videos were mixed, and the author had made an effort to change them from their original form to an original work of art.

  5. In my opinion the inbflat project matches the definition of appropriate, because the artist took pre-existing objects and put them together, creating a new piece of art. I really liked this project because it is very engaging and you can influence the result.
Thru-you was more collaborating because the different objects were all mixed together and you couldn’t influence the final piece.

  6. thru-you was a neat experience, especially when I accidentally found the narrator talking about searches and the future of data on my first video. After that my goal was to just make it as suspenseful as possible. Sadly when I went to the Thru-You site the only video that played was the funk one. On top of that the format and images were overlapping over each other for me so it kind of killed my experience.
